Transformers Animated - Deluxe Sentinel Prime

Available in the Deluxe class of Transformer Animated figures is Sentinel Prime. Snagged Sentinel, Voyager Prime and Lugnutz loose and complete as part of a bundle at a very good and cheap price. As a Deluxe class figure, Sentinel Prime would come packaged on a carded bundle as with other Deluxe class figure.

Vehicle Mode

In vehicle mode, Sentinel Prime resembles that of a truck with a snow plough attachment in the front. The attachment is able to be positioned at a slight angle to the sides as well as being able to face front. The full angle is shown in the picture above. The Autobot Elite Guard symbol can be seen on the top of the air scoop on the hood.

As I got this piece loose and it was the last piece available, I had to make do with a slight imperfection on this figure. As one can see from the above picture, half of the bar lights are missing on the top of the canopy. This imperfection doesn’t affect the transformation sequence at all, though it kind of sticks out like a sore thumb in vehicle mode. It doesn’t really stick out in robot mode as that portion is hidden at the back of the figure.

The accessories are able to be stored in the vehicle mode as seen in the picture above.

Robot Mode

In robot mode, Sentinel Prime greatly resembles the cartoon counterpart, right down to that jerkishly arrogant smirk on his face. Being of the Elite Guard, Sentinel Prime has the Autobot Elite Guard symbol placed prominently on the chest. Transformation wise, it’s pretty simple actually. I figured it out without the use of any transformation manuals or the like.

As for the articulation, Sentinel Prime is pretty decently articulated. Most of the major joints are articulated. The legs feature joints at the hips and the knees. The arms feature a rotatable shoulder joint that can be swung out as well as an elbow joint. The head features neck articulation, but the signature TFA big chin syndrome as well as the ‘chest armour’ hinders the range of motion.

Accessories

Sentinel Prime comes with 2 weapon accessories, his signature energy shield as seen in the cartoon and a never seen before energy sword. The sword and shield combo kind of reminds me of the Gyan from Mobile Suit Gundam. The shield comes in 2 pieces, the front plate for the shield and the handle. The 2 pieces have to be snapped together though the fit is somewhat tight and needs abit of force to be snapped into place.

The 2 accessories can be combined as such for more ‘play value’. This particular combination is actually a deviation of the combination for storage in vehicle mode.

That being said, Sentinel Prime ain’t exactly high on my ‘to-get’ list due to him largely being a jerk on the cartoon and I’m not too particularly impressed by the toy either.  Nevertheless, he’s a good figure to get if TFA figures are on sale, though I would not consider getting it at the standard retail price. The main reason why I got this figure was to complete the Autobot Elite Guard trio that includes Ultra Magnus and Jazz.
