Halo 3 Series 2 - Blue EOD Spartan
The Blue EOD Spartan is available under the Multiplayer line-up of Series 2 and comes packaged in a blister card. This figure is an exclusive figure, which means that it is not availble at mass retail but from a certain store and is thus produced in limited quantities compared to the rest of the other mass retail figures.
The figure is secured via a few twist ties at the 4 limbs. This Spartan armour configuration makes it’s debut in Series 2. The base Spartan mould is still the same as before. All the of articulation and the peg holes remain the same.
EOD stands for Explosive Ordance Disposal, which makes this armour configuration suited for bomb disposal, hence the heavier and fuller armour. The armour was indeed designed with bomb disposal in mind as the increased armour coverage and heavier plating would result in less chances of injuries or disemberment due to shrapnel. The helmet looks very much like a stormtrooper’s helmet would from Star Wars. Some would say it also resembles a clone trooper’s helmet from Star Wars too. Personally, I feel it looks more like the stormtrooper’s helmet. The shoulder armour pieces are more rounded and cover the entire shoulder area, more so than the EVA shoulder pieces do. The front chest plate also features a more streamlined and angular look and features more armour plating at the front compared to the MK VI.
This being a Multiplayer figure, the previously mentioned helmet, shoulder armour pieces and front chest plate are removable and can be swapped with any other Spartan figure from the Multiplayer line-up.
The Blue EOD Spartan comes packaged with a shotgun and a fragmentation grenade. The pegs are attached to the weapons and can be removed. The grenade is the exact same piece that comes with all of the other Spartans (excluding the Masterchief, of course).
The shotgun is pretty detailed and closely resembles the game counterpart. However, the trigger assembly is filled as can be seen in the picture above. This means that the fingers cannot be slotted into the trigger. This problem however, can be rectified with a simple home-fix if the neccessary tools are available.
Finally, this figure is a Wal-Mart exclusive as can be seen on the packaging. This is pretty good as it differentiates the exclusives from the mass retailed figures and makes it clearer to collectors as to which is which.
