Halo 3 Series 3 - Silver MK VI Spartan
The final piece in the set of 8 that I purchased is the Silver MK VI Spartan. This figure is available under the Multiplayer line-up of Series 3 and is packaged in a blister card. As with the other Spartans in Series 3, the figure is held in place via a twist-ties and is packaged in that weird looking pose which all Spartans in Series 3 share.
According to the listing at the Spawn website, the Silver MK VI is supposed to be a worldwide exclusive, available to the rest of the world besides the U.S. and Canada. However, it’s missing that ‘exclusive’ sticker that’s on the bubble like the other exclusives from Series 2, which kind of makes me doubt it’s true ‘exclusiveness’ since the other main exclusives are limited to certain stores. But if it is really an exclusive, well, I would be happy to know that this would be my first ever Halo 3 exclusive that i managed to get at retail pricing.
As this figure shares the exact same mould of the Masterchief, the points of articulation and the position and number of peg holes remain the same. However, being a Multiplayer figure, the shoulder armour pieces, front chest plate and helmet should be removable. I’ve got plenty of MOSC MK VI Spartans from Series 1, exclusive and non-exclusive alike and only had an extra red MK VI Spartan to open up and fiddle around with. So unless they changed the mould, which, is highly unlikely, the armour pieces would still be interchangable.
Colour wise, the silver armour colour scheme looks more on the light grayish side. I suppose it’s closer to an ash shade of gray since it really resembles the ashes from burnt out charcoal. The steel Spartans however, come closer to the silver colour scheme. Too bad that the steel colour scheme belongs to the Target exclusive figures so we won’t be seeing any mass retail figures in that colour scheme.
As for the weapons, a needler and a fragmentation grenade are packaged together with the figure.
Yes, I said a needler comes packaged as a weapon for the figure.
Of all the weapons that could have been packaged together with the figure, the needler has got to be the worst ever choice of weapon from the entire arsenal to come packaged with a Multiplayer Spartan. It just feels so… cheap.
I mean, even the lowly Grunt came with 2 weapons, a plasma pistol and a needler. Nevermind that it did not come with any plasma grenades or anything, but it came with 2 weapons. Sure, the needler was changed from a dual-wielded weapon from Halo 2 to a single wielded weapon in Halo 3, but the weapon is a small one. So small, that it really seems, as I mentioned earlier, cheap of McFarlane to package it with a Spartan.
It would have been better, in my opinion, if they included some other weapon, like maybe a shotgun, a sniper rifle, a spartan laser or maybe even 2 SMGs or a spiker rifle and plasma pistol combo. It’d look so much better with either a larger weapon or 2 smaller ones which can be dual-wielded. People would be more tempted to get the figure that way. A single needler is such a turn-off…
That all being said, the Silver MK VI Spartan was not really ranked that high on my ‘to get’ list, somewhere close to the lower half of the list. If it were not that fact that it came included in the set and was a worldwide ‘exclusive’, I might have skipped out on this piece entirely. So for all you completists out there, have fun getting this figure. It’s certainly better to keep it MOSC than to open it up in this case.

I got this figure just yesterday, and yes, the needler is quite a turn off, not just because it’s so small a weapon, but because there is no way for it to be held convincingly by the Spartan hands. In fact, I’m giving it to one of my Grunts and putting twin plasma pistols on my silver Mk. VI Exclusive (mine had a reflective “Mexico Exclusive” sticker on the blister).
This figure I liked a lot. My only other Spartan is a series 1 Master Chief, and there are differences in the chest plate piece, as the MC has some battle scarring on the right side and the silver spartan has a pristine set of armor.
