Transformers Animated - Deluxe Prowl

Prowl is available under the Transformers Animated line as a Deluxe class figure. In the animated series, Prowl is very much unlike his G1 counterpart, he’s more of a quiet loner type and is the resident ninja-bot of the Autobot team on Earth. However, he still retains the police vehicle alternate mode much like the G1 Prowl who was a police car.

Prowl’s vehicle mode is that of a police sports-bike complete with sirens at the rear of the seat. I’m just wondering how anyone would be able to see the sirens flashing if they’re sitting right in front of it. In this mode, Prowl is primarily black and gold. The Autobot symbol is situated at the nose of the vehicle and is coloured silver. The wheels, unfortunately, are not made of rubber but are made of plastic. Prowl also features a kick stand on the left of the vehicle that enables him to ’stand’ on his 2 wheels. Overall, I really like the vehicle mode of Prowl, it’s just a real nice looking sports-bike. Makes me wish I had one of these, sans sirens of course.

When transformed, Prowl resembles his animated series counterpart. One thing to note is that the handlebars can actually be tucked in, something that was forgotten in the instruction manual. In this mode, Prowl features pretty good articulation for a Deluxe figure, better than some of the larger Voyagers and some Deluxes in my opinion. The shoulders and hip/thigh joints are ball jointed. The knees can be bent fully and the elbows are pretty decently articulated. The head also features articulation but unfortunately is hindered by his humongous jaw. The ankles also feature some articulation.

Accessories wise, Prowl comes with 2 tri-bladed shurikens and of all things, a traffic light. The 2 shurikens can be stored in robot mode or vehicle mode as hubcaps as evident in the previous pictures. In vehicle mode, the shurikens are stored on opposite sides on the front and back wheels and in robot mode, the shurikens are stored on the outer portions of the legs.

The traffic light accessory is pretty much a let down. It’s basically the upper portion of a normal traffic light attached to a black string and a handle. It’s supposed to be used by Prowl as some sort of a flail-like weapon. This weapon really fails at being a flail. Ok, enough with the bad puns already. This particular weapon to my knowledge has never been used by Prowl at all during the entirety of the 2 Transformers Animated seasons. Hasbro probably decided that Prowl was too ’skimpy’ to package alone and decided to throw in that accessory to ‘boost’ the play value of Prowl. And the best thing, the string is attached to the wrong side of the traffic light. If one were to hang it as it was, one would get the traffic lights in a reversed position.

Hey Prowl, something seems wrong with this traffic light..

Somehow, I get the feeling that Prowl ain’t too happy in this photo. To compensate for that, here’s some photos of Prowl in his ninja poses.
