GN Stealth Activated - HG 1/144 Gundam Throne Drei
Today, I will be doing a review and work-in-progress for the HG (high grade) 1/144 Gundam Throne Drei from the Gundam 00 series.
Just a little background information, the Gundam Drei is actually piloted by Nena Trinity who is one of the Trinity Team. The other Throne Gundams who are members of this team are Gundam Eins and Gundam Zwei. Being able to store a large quantity of GN particles, it is a powerful combat support unit.
Lets take a look at the kit itself.
Box Content
The kit comes packaged in 4 plastic packages containing 6 plastic sprues altogether. A coloured assembly manual which shows you information like the paints for the kit and step by step assembly instructions, is also included in the kit. Additionally, it also comes with a sticker and a black bendable tube which can be used with some of its weapon.
Assembly
Chest
I used a pair of cutters which I bought from a hardware store to help me remove the plastic parts from the main plastic sprue. This cutters are very cheap compared to the branded ones like Tamiya. But the Tamiya ones are well worth the money as they provide a cleaner and closer cut from the plastic sprue so you do not really need to do much secondary processing like sanding and filing.
Here I am using my hobby knife to remove the polycaps from the sprue. Do take extra care when using this equipment as it is very sharp.
Head
Personally, I don’t really like the design of the Drei’s head. It looks somewhat similar to the head of the Alien from Alien the movie and the antennae on its head resembles feelers.
Modifications
Heres a little modification you can do to make your Gundam look better. Its called the sharpening of the V-fins. Basically you are trying to make the yellow antannaes or headpiece sharper to give your Gundam a more menacing look.

You can see that the antannae is actually blunt looking because of the extra plastic that is sticking out form the corner of the antannae piece.

Next, I used a hobby knife to cut away the piece of extra plastic.

Now the piece has been trimmed off.
Use a file to smoothen the rough edges and further sharpen the antannae. This file comes in a set and I got them from a local hardware store.
Finish the shapening by sanding the part using a Grit 600 followed by Grit 1000 sandpaper. The lower the grit, the rougher the finish.
You can see now that there is a slight sharpening of the antannae.
Completed Kit
Well I have finally finished building this kit.
Overall, the design of the Gundam is somewhat refreshing as with the rest of the other Gundam OO series Gundam. Not much obvious seamlines could be found on the kit but there are a few on the head portion. Nothing which a little putty cannot solve.
Articulation wise, the shoulder region is fixed and there is plenty of lateral movement for the head and neck region. The waist is also fixed but it can turn in both the left and right direction. For the leg region, it is quite articulated and can be adjusted for very dynamic poses.
For its accessories, the Drei is armed with a beam rifle attached at the arm, a GN shield and a GN backpack. There is also a black wire included which acts as a cable to be attached to the mega launcher of the Gundam Zwei. It seems somewhat similar to the Methuss powering the beam cannon of the Hyaku Shiki from the Zeta series. There are also two beam sabers attached on its shoulders.
Here’s some pics of the completed Gundam Drei:
Action Pose
Well thats the end of this review. The kit is available at Amazon. So do check it out. By the way I got my kit from a Singapore hobby shop known as Hobby Art Gallery (HAG). You can find the location of this store at my map section.

Nice review. I liked the V-fin sharpening tip. Maybe I’ll give that shot the next time I attempt a Gunpla build.
Throne design is great and quite unique. You made great work on this one.
