Transformers Animated - Deluxe Oil Slick

Oil Slick is a Deluxe Class Transformer from the Animated Series. Unlike the rest of the available Transformers, Oil Slick does not make any appearance at all in the Animated Series and is an original toy-line character.

Being a deluxe class Transformer, Oil Slick comes packaged in a carded bubble. The sides of the bubble have overlaying tabs and are secured with tape at the back. The top of the bubble is glued to the card as with the bottom of the bubble. The bottom is peforated and can be bent at the line. Oil Slick itself is held in place via 2 twist ties.

Oil Slick’s vehicle mode is that of a motorcycle. The vehicle is primarily olive green and features a wicked looking ram’s head where the headlight is situated. The ram horns and the handle bars are made of a soft rubber like plastic.

Look who's riding?

Being a Deluxe class figure, Oil Slick is not that huge, but he’s large enough for a Grunt from Macfarlane Halo 3 to ride on without much issues in size compatability.

Oil Slick features an attack mode. In this mode, the vehicle is lengthened and the front wheel seperates into 2 wheels in which the claws are then flipped out. The ram head is moved to the left side and the neon yellow/green headlight is flipped out from the gas tank. This attack mode is more like an afterthought that Hasbro thought up of to increase the play value of Oil Slick. The attack mode is just a partial transformation from the vehicle mode to robot mode.

In robot mode, Oil Slick is pretty tall and lanky. Most of the major joints are articulate, the neck turns fully, the shoulders rotate, the elbows can bend inwards as are the wrists, the hip joints are composed of a ball joint and the knees bend. The ankles also can be rotated to a certain extent. The claws from the attack mode become the hands and are made from the same soft rubbery plastic as the handle bars and ram horns.

The Decepticon symbol is featured prominently in the middle of the chest and is coloured black. The headlight from the attack mode houses the head for Oil Slick. This kind of reminds me of that Batman enemy Dr Freeze.

Accessories

Oil Slick comes with 2 canisters that double as the weapons. One of the canisters opens at one end to become…. an opened canister. Not too sure what that canister is supposed to transform into, might be just a storage canister or a gun. OR it might just be that ghost trap that the Ghostbusters used to trap their captured ghosts.

Do take note that the 2 ‘animals’ are from the S.I.C Hibiki line and are not included with the toy. Another possible use for the canister is this…

Rider kick!

For the other canister, this one features a more thought out approach as this canister transforms into a chain weapon of sorts which features about 4 different kinds of configurations. The configurations are as shown below.

As can be seen from the above pictures, the canister’s top and bottom lids can be popped out. The barrel section can also be split into 2. The chains are made from plastic and are attached to both lids. It is not possible to try and remove the barrels from the lids, that is without breaking and reattaching the chain portion. The 2 canisters are held by the hands via attaching the pegs from the canisters to the peg holes in the hands. When not in use, the canisters can be stored at the sides of the ankles.
