Halo 3 Series 1 - Masterchief
Here we have the Masterchief from the Halo 3 game series as done by Mcfarlane toys. This here is from Series 1, Campaign. MC (short for Masterchief) comes in a clamshell packaging that is totally made of plastic. This packaging is not really collector friendly as it forces one to cut up the packaging to remove the figure and there is no way to return the figure to a Mint in Box (MIB) condition.
MC comes with his signature weapon which is the Assault Rifle. Sadly, MC doesn’t come packaged with a grenade as with the other MK VI Spartans in the Series 1, Multiplayer lineup. As to why this is so is a mystery perhaps fated to be unsolved.
Also in the packaging is a peg which can be used to attach the Assault Rifle to one of 4 peg holes on MC, 1 at the back, 2 on each rear end of the waist and finally, 1 on the right thigh. Somehow, for all the Series 1 Spartans that I’ve opened, the peg somehow does not seem to fit all the way in on the waist peg holes.
As can be seen from the above 2 figures, the MC shown has a plasma pistol and a frag grenade attached to him. Do take note that the 2 are not packaged with MC as stated above. The frag grenade is from the Series 1 Multiplayer Spartans and the plasma pistol from the Series 1 Campaign Grunt. MC is pretty accurate when compared to his game counterpart.
Mcfarlane has also included some form of ‘battle damage’ in the 2 scratches at the upper right chest plate and a slightly weathered wash in addition to his normal olive green armour. Unlike the other Series 1 Multiplayer Spartans, the chest armour and shoulder armour of MC cannot be removed.
18 Articulation Points?
As for the supposed 18 points of articulation, I have not bothered to count the actual number of articulated joints, but I believe that there should be all 18 articulated joints.
However, some of the joints are pretty stiff and may not seem to be articulated when they indeed are. Some of the joints may appear to be stuck but they can still be moved, just that one has to take care when trying to move these ’stuck’ joints. I twisted off the right hand of my Red E.V.A Spartan when I tried to twist the wrist.
The pictures below show some of the poses MC can achieve with his 18 points of articulation. MC can achieve a passable dual wielding pose. Passable because his right hand is moulded to hold weapons and the left, moulded to grip the barrel of the Assault Rifle. Hence, when dual wielding, the weapon may not fit nicely into the left hand. Take note that the Needler also comes fom the Grunt.
